LULC & Future Land Use Prediction — Sahiwal City

Land-use and land-cover analysis with future land-use prediction.

LULC & Future Land Use Prediction — Sahiwal City geospatial project

Project overview

Multi-temporal satellite imagery and spatial analysis were used to classify land cover, identify historical change, and develop evidence for future land-use prediction and more sustainable spatial planning.

The project challenge

Sahiwal required a consistent view of historical land-cover change and a defensible basis for exploring future spatial patterns across a rapidly changing urban landscape.

Technical approach

  1. Selected multi-temporal imagery and prepared consistent spatial extents and classification inputs.
  2. Developed land-use/land-cover classes and reviewed their spatial and thematic consistency across years.
  3. Calculated change transitions to identify where urbanisation and other land-cover conversions occurred.
  4. Prepared variables and a modelling framework for exploring plausible future land-use patterns.
  5. Mapped results in a form suitable for research interpretation and spatial-planning discussion.

Key deliverables

  • Multi-year LULC maps
  • Change-detection matrices and maps
  • Future land-use prediction outputs
  • GIS-ready datasets
  • Technical presentation and interpretation

Decision value

  • A comparable historical land-cover record
  • Identification of dominant conversion patterns
  • Evidence for discussing future urban growth
  • A repeatable framework for updating the analysis

QUALITY & INTERPRETATION

Classification consistency, imagery comparability, class definition, validation evidence, and the uncertainty of future scenarios are treated explicitly.
